Diablo3.com countdown

News | April 19, 2008 (4 weeks, 1 day ago) | by Zyuu | Filed in Blizzard Entertainment

The rumors surrounding Diablo 3 have been revived yet again. This time it's Blizzplanet a Blizzard fansite who is the source. Since Blizzplanet is known to have friendly ties with Blizzard, it's likely to be something interesting and certainly not a hoax. The countdown ends on May 1st. It currently (at the time of me submitting this news) show a 12 days countdown.

What will occur on May the 1st? There's many theories and one of them is that Blizzard is acquiring ownership of Diablo3.com, this in itself could lead (and will) to many interesting things. Many think that there's an upcoming Diablo MMO. This is highly unlikely if you think of it logically. It's more likely that a Starcraft MMO will be announced in due time instead.

Well just to let everyone know Diablo2 was the best game ever. It killed Diablo1 buy a long shot, If Blizzard is as smart as they R they will make a D3 its gauentee money. I just hope they dont try to make it like WOW granted its cool But the view on D2 was perfect and the story is Godly.

I am not seeing how it is more logical for them to be making a starcraft MMO over a diablo MMO, when they are already developing starcraft 2, i highly doubt they would make 2 games from the same series at the same time. Also their other "next-gen" mmo might be from a new franchise (which they said they said in an interview a while back that they where going to start a new series), or equally so diablo.

Diablo 1 was the better of the two. I'm nervous if they are indeed considering a third Diablo, especially with the terrible results of Hellgate London, and the change in direction that Mythos has taken.

We'll just have to wait and see, but I'm not holding any breath.

Edit: I looked up the whois information on Diablo3.com and can't find any correlation there if anyone was interested.

Freyar,

Out of curiosity, when was the last time you looked in on HGL? They definitely had a horribly launch, but the game is constantly getting better and more fleshed out. I personally believe that the problems came from being used to having the time they need to release a completed game (i.e. Blizzard's philosiphy), to having the giant that is EA breathing down their necks. I currently subscribe to HGL and find it to be an awesome game, merging FPS (I play a Marksman) and Diablo nicely. Yes, there are still a few bugs and missing features, but that is changing fast.

I haven't really looked at Mythos, I just know that it was designed only for the purpose of testing Ping0, their online service, and has since turned into a f2p game.

It's been so long since I've played D1, that I can't remember a lot about it (except that the expansion was horrible... who's idea was it to let Sierra produce it?). I do remember it being amazing, but I like D2 better.

I'm not in any way saying you should change your opinion about either game, but I'm curious why you like D1 better than D2, and if you've seen anything beyond the horrible release of HGL. I for one would be both excited and scared to see what happened if Blizzard made Diablo 3... It would be completely new people, but it would be backed by Blizzard's policy of quality. I'm much less worried than excited, though, considering just how many Blizzard games have had new devs involved.

Hellgate, despite it's increased stability and content, is still mediocre. The gameplay is semi-boring, and there are still a decent number of bugs and issues with server communication and even standard animations. It still feels unpolished (though it is better than it was.)

Diablo 1 is what I started with, it was nice, had a good start at building recognition with Griswold, Pepin, and Cain. Diablo 2 felt too big. The same kind of big the Lord of the Rings trilogy had. Good story, I suppose, just too long. I think a good part of it was the playerbase too. I don't remember ever playing with other people that weren't real ****s.

Freyar, you really need to do your homework before posting.

Diablo 1 and 2 were designed by the Blizzard Team.

Most of the designers for Diablo 1 and 2 have left since then, so Diablo 3 would end up being designed by a different group of people within Blizzard.

Mythos and Hellgate: London was developed by Flagship Studios. This company was founded by the original Diablo designers.

If you have a beef with Mythos and Hellgate, direct it at Flagship, not Blizzard.

I know that Mythos and Hellgate were done by Flagship, and not Blizzard. I didn't say anything else. I was merely hinting that any improvements that the original Diablo team did to Diablo (in terms of D2, D2:LoD, Hellgate, and Mythos) haven't done a great job at substantially making the series better.

Not only do I have a beef with Hellgate and Mythos, but Diablo II as well, and I can only hope that DIablo III doesn't run in the same circle.

I can see how you construed my post as an attempt to place credit with the development of Hellgate and Mythos with Blizzard, however I intended to speak about the original design team, and not Blizzard in itself.

(By the way, no need to be a **** about things. Someone thinks the internetz are serious business.)

in response to freyar, Hellgate London was headed up by most of the original diablo people for sure and it was lacking because they tried to hard to make it 3D and just like diablo.....But, if bliz does buyout D3.com and announces they are starting production on a new Diablo game I think they will stay true to the original and make it more like the game we know. Blizz is usually pretty good about what it's fans like and tries to stay true to their word. I am just saying look for a different engine but mostly the same game.... I sorta see blizz trying something like guild wars in terms of an engine but much less lame...because guild wars is crap lets be honest here...... anyways that's my two cents

Blizzplanet was formerly Star-craft-2.com, founded by Yitten and Stephen. On September 22, 2002, Blizzard announced Starcraft: Ghost at Tokyo Game Show. With no hope for a Starcraft 2 release, and scarce news, one of the members: Justice, proposed "Blizzplanet" as our new domain name. Immediately, another of our former members LSDesign created the logo. We launched Blizzplanet as a All-Blizzard-Games News and Content fansite, rather than the Starcraft-only focused fansite. Blizzplanet had at one time over 20 staff members, but most of them have moved on: College, Jobs, Other Games, Personal reason, etc.

As part of the Blizzard Fansites Program, our loyalty to Blizzard and our fans is to mantain a clean community following and respecting the EULA and Terms of Service of Blizzard Games. Our support to Blizzard Entertainment spreads to advertising products like Warcraft RPG Books, Warcraft novel pocketbooks, Warcraft Board Game and World of Warcraft UpperDeck Trading Cards, among other products. Additionally, we often interview Warcraft novel writers, White Wolf and Upper Deck representatives, Blizzard Sound and Music Composers, Voice Actors, and others to keep the fans up to date with Blizzard Entertainment's whereabouts.
